The Albino Red Cap Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) is a stunning and elegant freshwater fish celebrated for its graceful shape and eye-catching coloration. This selectively bred angelfish variety combines the soft, creamy-white body of an albino morph with a vivid red or orange “cap” on the head, creating a striking contrast that immediately draws attention in any aquarium.

True to the classic angelfish form, the Albino Red Cap has a tall, laterally compressed body with long, flowing dorsal and anal fins that trail gracefully as it moves through the water. The absence of dark pigmentation gives the body a pearly, almost translucent appearance, while the bright red cap varies in intensity from fish to fish and often deepens with age, proper nutrition, and low-stress conditions. Like other albino varieties, the eyes are typically pink to light red, adding to its unique and delicate look.

In temperament, Albino Red Cap Angelfish are generally peaceful, calm, and semi-social, making them well suited for community aquariums with compatible tank mates. They do best with other non-aggressive fish that won’t nip fins or outcompete them for food. When kept in pairs or small groups and given adequate space, they display natural, confident behavior. During breeding, however, angelfish can become territorial and protective of their eggs.

These angelfish originate from the slow-moving rivers and floodplains of South America, and they thrive in aquariums that mimic those conditions. A well-planted tank with vertical décor such as tall plants, driftwood, and broad leaves helps them feel secure and allows them to display their full elegance. Soft lighting and gentle water flow further enhance their comfort and coloration.

Albino Red Cap Angelfish are omnivorous and benefit from a varied diet. High-quality flake or pellet foods formulated for angelfish should be the staple, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. Occasional vegetable-based foods or spirulina help support overall health and coloration.
